About TMDA
Our office is located in Pacific Heights and was established in 2001. In our studio environment, we strive to engineer unique architectural and design solutions tailored to specific client objectives creating individual project identities. We have a diverse practice and have an accomplished portfolio with hospitality, commercial and residential projects. Our office is highly collaborative. Clients hire and refer us because  of the way we advocate their projects and provide full service management throughout the construction process.

Design Director Job Description:

  • Work directly with clients to develop programming, space plans and conceptual designs and lookbooks

  • Partner with principal and studio team to prepare and present schematic design

  • Liaise with Studio Director to schedule and prepare client approved Schematic Design for Design Development documentation

  • Mentor and contribute to a creative studio culture

  • Be a primary studio design voice with clients, vendors and consultants

  • Collaborate with team members and colleagues to promote interdisciplinary design philosophy

  • Participate in business development and marketing efforts including managing existing client relationships and developing new ones

  • Craft and prepare Request for Proposal responses including firm collateral and authoring fee proposals

Requirements that we’re looking for:

  • 8+ years of professional commercial experience including proven track record of leading local design teams

  • Advanced degree in Architecture or Design preferred with a strong design education

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Outstanding graphic presentation skills

  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship management and mentoring skills

  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the studio, with clients, and with other key consultants

  • Strong, persuasive communicator with excellent verbal presentation skills and the ability to communicate and present complex design concepts to clients

  • Entrepreneurial business acumen to advise and guide principal and clients

  • Ability to use 2D/3D software, including AutoCAD, Revit, PhotoShop, and Google Suite

  • Knowledge of the total project process including fee and team management, schedules and budgets

  • Active in our local design community
